Oftentimes when I think of our most beautiful Mother I think of joy, love, and peace. In the devotion to her most Immaculate Heart we are shown a heart on fire with such an intensity of love – love for God and humanity. We are also told of her purity and selfless love represented by the white lilies and roses. However, Mary was known for a heart that was pierced seven times.

Amongst her suffering and sorrow, she is the perfect model of joy and hope. Throughout Mary’s life, her joy remains constant as she is united with God and filled with the Holy Spirit. These seven sorrows are depicted as butterflies that bring hope and joy amongst the pain. As you view this painting, my desire is that you are filled with Mary’s deep love for you. As Our Lady of Fatima said, “Be not afraid; my Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and your safe page to God”.
