Beautiful Mother
Beautiful Mother
Although the year of 2020 was tragic for all, I feel like there has been so many beautiful blessings that I have been taught through it all. When the news was reporting tragedy and I wanted to be afraid, I chose to turn to scripture which gave me much peace. In this year, I felt more than ever a connection to Mary, our Holy Mother. Through my prayers, I felt Mary interceding for me like never before. Mary has taught me so much in the last year. I can admit at times, I just didn’t really pay attention to her role in our life. But throughout the year, Mary taught me by her powerful rosary about her struggles and when time got hard, the answer is to surrender and to pray. Afterall, this is what Mary did in her history altering fiat at the Annunciation. By proclaiming her bold and fervent “Yes” she changed the course of her life and our lives forever more.
During my life as an artist, I have grown to be moved to create paintings to share my love with the world. When people view my work, I hope to not only put a smile on one’s face, but also to make an impression on their heart. As I began to dream about making a painting of Mary, I was very intimidated. Of course, how does one portray our beautiful mother? So, I did what Mary would do. I prayed. I continued to pray until I was given the image that I was to paint for you. As I have learned throughout my life, however, God reminded me that it is not all about me and my timing, so this was definitely a process! Right before I began the painting, I came home to my house after being out of town. In the front of my house around my Mary statue there were butterflies everywhere. As these butterflies continued to stay here for a few days I knew that Mary was sending me a message of hope and just like that I knew that Mary was ready for me to begin. To this day, my two little boys will proclaim to the world that Mary brought us butterflies and our lives were forever touched.
So with this, I hope you will be moved by Mary, the world’s greatest mother. Let us ask Mary to show us the radical power of surrender, the strength to live the Gospel with fervor and to speak the Word of God with boldness. I hope you will always feel Mary’s love for you as our beautiful mother and that you will hear her message as she speaks to us about hope, love and peace. “Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer”(Romans 12:12). It is with this, all things are possible.
