2024 Cathedral Flower Festival

2024 Cathedral Flower Festival

I will forever be grateful to our beautiful Mother.  Years ago in a time of much struggle, I made a visit to our local Catholic store. I remember walking into the store and meeting a lovely women that was the sales lady.  I was looking at all the books trying to find the right one, a book that would change my life.  She directed me to a book entitled, 33 Days to Morning Glory: A Do-It-Yourself Retreat In Preparation for Marian Consecration. When I went to leave, she also handed me a Miraculous Medal to wear around my neck.  Today, I will tell you that consecrating my life to Mary was the one thing that changed my life forever.  Mary has shown up time and time again since this day.  She has been a model of peace, love and beauty.  She has not only brought me to her son, but she reminds me each day to stay close to Him.  She continually tells me to look for the beauty of the world, to look for her son.

In The Reed of God, Carol Houselander states, "The light is shining in the darkness, but the darkness does not comprehend it."  As I look around this world, I think about how beauty and art has such an incredible impact.  Oftentimes, I am saddened by the images that are out there.  Through my art, I want to inspire those around me to grow in their faith.  If God can use me in their faith journey, I am incredibly honored.  It is my mission to bring this beauty into the darkness of the world.

Beyond painting, another passion of mine is flowers.  I believe that every flower that God gives us is a tiny gift that points us directly to Him.  I am so very grateful for this. I love to create art with the flowers that He gives us. Being a part of the flower ministry team at my parish has given me the opportunity to take part in the Omaha Cathedral Arts Festival these last couple of years.  This year, being in the Mother Chapel, our team chose to place our theme on Mary’s Immaculate Heart.  Our goal was to show Mary’s simple beauty.  It is my hope that those that view our installation will be drawn to Mary’s most pure, beautiful and tender heart.

One day, my wish is to have a space that does just this.  A space that people are able to go to to experience the beauty that God has given us.  A space that has art and flowers that allows for authentic conversation.  A place to retreat from the busyness and increasing darkness of our world, but also allowing people to bring that beauty back into their homes with flowers and art.  This online store is the start of my dream that Mary has placed on my heart.  I hope that you enjoy and are inspired to spread beauty in this world!
